It's lucky when you get to catch live network bloopers like this
one. They couldn't get one of their commentators on.
Arkansas
Radio Network feeds
2 Lowell
Ruffcorn reports, Jan. 23, 1995
Download(2.4MB)
For a number of months in 1995, you could
hear the Arkansas Radio Network on an audio subcarrier of the
Shepherd's Chapel station on C-band satellite. I recorded a few
things from there on the big-dish satellite system I had at that
time. This is a continous feed containing 2 agricultural reports
with Lowell Ruffcorn: "Market Countdown" at 1:20 PM,
followed by "Market Brief" at 1:26. It should be noted
that I recorded the 1995 ABC/ARN material on an old portable
reel-to-reel recorder at 1 7/8 IPS, which should explain the
sound quality.

This continuous feed starts at 2:53:30 PM with an announcement to
stations, then continues through the 2:55 and 3:00 news reports.

It's funny that because this station was owned by Sam Phillips,
and because it was named after "the king", every Elvis
song they played had to be announced as being "#1 this
week".
NOTE (11/30/11): I'm very
proud that this aircheck has been chosen for the Airchexx.com site! Here's the post
from that site containing the aircheck, along with additional
info about the station!: http://airchexx.com/2011/11/30/george-allen-94-3-wlvs-stereo-country-memphis-1979/
